PT. Timah Tbk. innitiated a social responsibility program dedicated for the city of Mentok. This program concerns with the current situation of the city of Mentok. Despite it’s position as the home/ origin of the region’s tin mining industry, its importance in the national history, and relatively strategic geographic and historic position, it seems Mentok’s current development relatively stagnant and somehow ‘isolated’, especially compared to the province’s capital, Pangkal Pinang, which is bustling with new developments of infrastructures and modern facilities.
The stakeholders of the city; public officials, people on the streets, the mining company’s employees, cultural activists, senior citizens, local artists, craftsmen, etc.; had been longing for changes in Mentok for sometime. Therefore, this occasion can really seize the momentum and provide a neutral platform of cooperation between the stakeholders.
This part will take place between (tentatively) 18-22 July 2011. Few researchers from different backgrounds will be invited to come together and conduct a 2-3 days excursion and research. The researchers will present their views on the subject during the opening days of the design workshop.
